As you ride up the mountain into the town of Jiufen, you catch sight of the misty mountains in the distance and see the sun pierce the clouds, warming the emerald-green mountainside. Disembarking from your ride, you recall the words of your host, Min, who warned that you would have to pass through the bustling old-street district on your way to the guesthouse. As you walk to the end of the street, you begin to foresee what is in store, as images of the elegant, tranquil face of Jiufen begin to fill your mind.
A life of peace and quiet on the side of the mountain
Walking along stone steps, you wind your way this way and that down the narrow alleys until you reach the appointed destination of Jiufen Elementary School, where you are met by the sweet smile of your host, Min. You follow her for less than three minutes until you reach the inconspicuous entrance of Something Easy Guesthouse to one side of the steep stone laneway. You close the door behind you and, slipping out of your shoes and into the slippers your host has prepared, you step onto the warm solid-wood floorboards. You bask in the warm lighting of the place, leaving the cold air of the mountains behind, as the mellow wooden environs instantly set your mind at ease.
This space was originally designed to meet the vacation needs of Min’s family. From the verawood floorboards to the array of solid teakwood furniture, every corner of the space reveals her family’s insistence on quality and texture. The house, which is situated on the edge of this hillside town, affords you secluded, peaceful lodgings for your getaway from busy city life.
Waking up free from worry in a scenic landscape
You gently open the door to each of the rooms and walk in towards an entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows. You gaze upon the mountain range beyond, the peaks extending layer upon layer all the way to the ocean where ocean and sky meet on the horizon. If you choose to stay in an upstairs room, you may enjoy the luxury of your own small living room, allowing you the freedom to laze about on the sofa in the company of the majestic landscape.
As the evening sky gradually darkens, the lights of the town illuminate the mountainside one by one. Min has thoughtfully equipped your bathroom with a heater / dehumidifier so that you may stay warm and dry at all times. After you’ve enjoyed a lavish bath, connect to the room’s bluetooth sound system to play your favorite tunes. Finally, lie down on the large double bed and slowly drift into slumberland.
A calm corner on the Old Street
As morning breaks and the gentle sunlight peeks through the cracks of the curtains, you unhurriedly awake to meet the day. The single-serving coffee maker brews a silky smooth latte for you to enjoy on the rooftop patio with a few slices of toast and jam. In contrast to yesterday evening’s misty mountain scenery, the daytime skies in Jiufen appear especially clear and bright - the turquoise blue of the ocean blending into the azure blue of the sky. Glancing downwards, you realize the bustle of Jiufen Old Street is right below your feet. Anticipation of perusing the old street at a leisurely pace begins to build, as you imagine the undiscovered pleasures awaiting you within.
