You step into an ordinary cement building, take the elevator and go up to the 11th floor. The door opens slowly with a soft yellow light flows in, while you smile at the greeting from the house-like logo. The English name of the hotel – Chill Roof – represents a rooftop space that makes people feel relaxed and chill, making you wonder what kind of laid-back space will appear behind the door of each room. Change into slippers and enter the lobby, you find that your hesitation and uneasiness just evaporate as replaced by the sweet pomelo fragrance in the air. The bright colors applied to the space are paired with the simple furniture of Nordic style. There is no hard or cold feeling often found in the business hotels; instead, you’ll only find simplicity and cosiness here. As the owl lamp on the counter catches your eyes, “That is our mascot. There are ten rooms at Chill Roof, all designed by the three hosts and come with distinctive characters and charms. The three hosts with straightforward personality – Xiaomao, Azong, and Qixin – have known each other since they were young. Decade-plus years are transformed into their long-lasting camaraderie. Down in the aisle decorated with the geometric pattern, room numbers are shown on the wall by the light casts through the carved iron plates on the wall, a pleasant surprise embodying the hosts’ ingenuity. Painted with large blocks of Turkish blue, fantasy blooms in the room “Lokum,” while the romantic French princess bed is tailored for girls. Imagining a “Simple Life in Northern Europe” in the such named room, you snuggle with your partner in front of the large window on the solid wood floor and promise each other to take a trip to the Nordic countries in the future. “Private House” invites travellers to feel like at home, while the colorful triangles remind you of the doodles you and your little sister drew on the wall in childhood. “Corbusier” pays homage to the architecture master with simple and stylish industrial décor. Take a ride on the Totoro bus and visit the “May’s Day” room, immersing yourself in the fragrance of tatami and the delightful fusion of Japanese and pop style.
